An Interview with Dark Angel from Bubble Jam

In this new weeked edition of Bubble Jam DeLite we would be attempting to investigate mystic Psychedelic Trance wizard with the difference. He is a mature person of noble age of 46 who bangs on decks and promotes a lot or more over weekends in London and beyond, especially in the forests. Perhaps this is where he finds primordial force to help him endure weekend's madness? - In his age? - This is not clear yet but we shall persuade him to stir it up. Hey! WE MADE DARK ANGEL TALK

Describe yourself in 3 words

I am me ;-)

Draw yourself in triangles only

One big triangle with one point vertically downwards ('cos I've got broad shoulders, and another little triangle on top, again with a point vertically downwards for my head ('cos my heads not pointy ;-).

When did you start trashing tunes and entertaining or educating masses?

Bit over 4 years ago with "Free State" in Reading. I owe them and all the other people I've played for a big debt, but it's the people who come to the nights I owe most to, because without them, there's nothing. It's always a privilege to be able to DJ for them.

What do you play most often?

Psychedelic Trance, my greatest love musically, though I also play Acid Techno and Chill Out.

What gave you the push to get into music and promoting - money, fame, boredom?

None of those. I get my kick from helping people to be happy. For me it's all about the scene, showing people that there is a better way of life than the normal stifling 9 to 5 existence.

Do you do anything besides being a DJ?

I used to run my own accountancy practice, but increasingly hated what I was doing. I still do some accountancy work though, 'cos it brings a bit of money in.

I also organise parties. That, combined with my DJ work, seems to occupy most of my waking hours!

Do you eat humans and when or are you vegetarian??

<Smile> I try not to eat people, even if they annoy me ;-). I'm allergic to cheese, so it's difficult to be a vegetarian, and as I burn soup, I'd be hopeless as a vegan.

Are you producing your own material?

No. It's been a deliberate policy of mine not to do so because I want to concentrate on being the best DJ I can possibly be. Maybe sometime in the future, but no one should hold their breath....

Your biggest influence musically speaking so far?

That's always a hard one. If pushed I'd have to say Pink Floyd. I was about 16 when I heard "Relics", and although I know it's a cliche, I have to say it changed my life for ever.

Brilliant moments on the scene?

It's impossible to say - there have been so many. All those moments when the music catches me, and nothing else exists. All those wonderful people I've met, whether simply as friends, or as helpers. There's no doubt about it, fortune has smiled on me :-).

Most embarrassing accident while mixing?

More like a series of blunders ;-). The 1st time I played in a club, I was shockingly bad. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. I vowed never to play that badly again, and thankfully, I never have.

Do you go partying yourself?

When I can, and normally to other Psy-Trance events. I'm a party goer, just like everyone else. If I ever forget that, I'll have lost it - not that there's much danger of it happening...

Do you enjoy making sense or it is the opposite that attracts?

Both. Why limit myself!

What are your regular residencies and where can we find you most often here or abroad?

I organise and play at Inna?Turtle at the Purple Turtle in Camden every Saturday afternoon. It's free to get in, and nobody gets paid for their work, so everyone does what they do for all the right reasons.

I do the same with others at "The Awakening" in the Reading and Manchester areas. I DJ with "Technosense" and "Magic", and occasionally play for "Fushion" - seemingly increasingly these days :-).

Any particular hobby?

<Laughs> What, apart from the obvious ;-)? To be serious, and although it's hardly a hippy thing, I love Motor Racing. Seeing the best drivers in the world is simply breath taking.

U like anyone out there in shark infested waters of the scene?

Oh for sure! Of course there are bastards out there, but there are also loads of really great people. I couldn't achieve the little I do without their help.

Any good Djs?

Not my 1st choice of music, but Sasha is the best DJ I've ever heard. Apart from him, DJ Lestat who's also part of the Psy-Trance combo, "Talamasca". I heard him recently and was very, very impressed.

There is a rumour going about that you were MP once- true, false?

False. I was a Tory district councillor in Reading when I was 21, with the partially naive hope that I could help to make life better for people. Funny how life changes, isn't it....

Plans for the future?

More, much more. In the immediate future I want to develop Inna?Turtle into an open cult, if I can. Beyond that, there are the other events I'm involved with. Also, I recently teamed up with "Inside Us All" - a bunch of guys who make seriously good videos. It looks as though we'll be doing parties, with a difference, together.

The future's bright ;-).

Last three words?

Love, Life and Harmony.
