DJ Dark Angel Record Reviews::June2002
Here's a short record review of some of the music I really like. They're
in no particular order, 'cos one day I'll enjoy one track more than
another, only for my thoughts to go into reverse the next. As always,
it's subjective - enough to say that I love them all :-).
1. Unify by Electric Universe
What a wonderful album, with a build up within the album as a whole,
as well as in the individual tracks. Look out for "Embrace It" and
"Transmission" in particular. In places it's seriously psychedelic.
My album of the year so far.
2. Unusual Suspects (Various Artists)
The influence of Simon Posford and Raja Ram is clear on this great
album, having contributed work to it. I love hearing musicians work,
rather than simply computer programmers. It's innovative, inventive,
and simply great Psy-Trance.
3. Orange Acid by Brain Accent
Incredible to think that this track came out on the Pulse album in
1996. The build up on it is one of the best I've ever heard - no matter
what genre of dance music. You can get it on the Tim Schuldt singles
collection on vinyl.
4. Irritant by X-Dream
I've had a soft spot for X-Dream since I first heard "As a Child".
"Irritant" the album is perhaps a bit laboured, but "Irritant" the
track is hard, dark, and does the business perfectly.
5. Spectrum Analyser (Various Artists)
Compiled by DJ Dede, his album is simply fun. I play "Echotek" and
"Shift" from it, but I could play other tracks too, and probably will
;-). It's funky Psychedelic Trance, and I love it.
6. Gravitech by Psycraft
Quality Psy-Trance throughout. So good, you're spoilt for choice in
which track to play. Having said that "Bizarre RMX", "Dream On" and
"Partial Recall" are the ones I use. They're just so beautifully crafted.
7. Sunspot by Dark Soho
Even though the album came out last year, it remains a classic. Perhaps
"Succubus" is the best known track, but "Depth of Emotion" - WOW!
The way they morph guitar led thrash metal into pure Psy-Trance blows
me away every time.
8. And a special mention for Space Tribe.
It's too difficult to single out any particular track. Olli Wisdom
is just amazingly reliable. So many of his tracks will get the crowd
going. If I was pushed I might mention "Live and Let Live", but heck
I could just as well have mentioned others too.
You can see some of my previous reviews
as well. Happy listening, and full on clubbing to you all. |
